Spanish (A2)
Course aims
The course promotes understanding and study in greater detail of contemporary society, cultural background, literature and heritage of one or more of the countries or communities whose language is being studied. Spanish will be used to analyse, hypothesise, evaluate, justify and develop arguments and present viewpoints in both speech and writing.
Course content
Reading and listening material is firmly rooted in the culture of the Spanish speaking world. Topics covered include environment and pollution, politics and citizenship, customs and religions, EU and world problems.
Assessment is by examination
1. Oral. (Discussion of issues - 15 mins) 30%
2. Listening, Reading and Writing 40%
3. Culture and Society (Coursework) 30%
Commitment
As with the AS language course, this is a one year course of five timetabled lessons per week. In addition, there are a further one or two lessons arranged in the student's own study time. These are used for individual and group conversation practice with a Spanish assistant and for listening to tape and watching material in Spanish.
To follow an A level language course successfully students must be willing to spend the necessary time to develop all their skills. Regular homework is given and students will be expected to complete a wide variety of tasks, such as research and preparation for and follow-up for topic work.
Entry requirements Students should have successfully completed the Spanish AS course. They are allowed to bank their AS result against A level results in individual papers and also to re-sit all units once. |
