BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts

This vocational course is offered in Year 12 as an alternative to either ‘A’ Levels or employment. This is a great option as it combines all of the performance elements (acting/music/dance/business/work/performance) into one course which you will solely study over two years.

What is a BTEC National Diploma?
A BTEC National Diploma is a practical, work related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace, activities and demands within the performing arts industry. It is a very practical, hands-on course which will allow you to experience and fully part take in all aspects of the performing arts industry.

Who is the course aimed at?
The course is aimed at anyone who has an interest in Drama, performance, dance, music or production and the performing arts business.  It will provide a broad education and could act as a springboard for further studies, Higher Education and employment opportunities.

Course content
You will take part in workshops, learn how to market and publicise productions, and organize the staging of a number of different performances of both scripted and devised plays.  During the course students form a theatre company, lead workshops with an outside audience, take their performances on tour to primary schools and perform in a variety of professional venues, such as the Tricycle Theatre.  All aspects of performances are produced solely by the students, from costume/make up, lighting and sound design and front-of-house to acting and direction.  As well as learning about all aspects of the performing arts, you develop a range of skills which will be valuable in the work arena. You will have an opportunity to be trained in several specialist areas such as acting, dance, directing, and there is even a chance to bring in your own talents and refine them.

Units
There are a total of 12 units which you will cover over the 2 year course.

The BTEC National Diploma opens up many pathways to a range of courses or job opportunities.  Many go on to study at college or straight to university.
