Media Studies (AS and A2)

These courses are a challenging mixture of the practical and the academic. Real commitment and an interest in such areas of the media as film, television, newspaper and magazines, radio and new media/ICT are essential.
High motivation levels and an ability to work with others are essential for success. Media Studies is now generally recognised by universities as being equal to most other subjects at A Level in terms of entry criteria.

Course content
Both A and AS Level consists of modular courses assessed both by coursework and written examinations. Candidates will be required to study a range of media institutions, audiences and texts, and to develop evaluation of and critically analyse the products, practices and conventions of the media.

 

The AS Level course consists of two main modules:

1.       Foundation Portfolio - Coursework
2.       Key Media Concepts (Radio or T.V. drama) - Exam.

The A2 Level course consists of the modules listed above plus two further modules:

3.       Advanced Portfolio – Coursework
4.       Critical Perspectives - Exam

Four units:     50% Internally assessed coursework
50% Externally assessed exams

 

Entry requirements 5 GCSE grades at A*-C, including English and English Literature.
