Mathematics (AS and A2)

Qualifications in mathematics are much sought after by both universities and employers who want problem solvers. The most important reason for choosing mathematics is that you are interested in it and enjoy it. If you choose mathematics you will be studying the "Queen and Servant of Sciences".

Course content

The course follows the Edexcel A Level syllabus for mathematics. The specifications for A Level maths include modules which are:

C 1, C2, C3 and C4 which are called Core maths units.

S1 and S2 are the statistics units.

C 1, C2, S1 are taken in Year 12 and could lead to an AS qualification. The remaining units C3, C4 and S2 are taken in Year 13 (A2) noting that at least two must be taken at the final sitting.

Assessment will be by a written paper of 1.5 hour's duration in each of the six modules which all carry the same weight. Coursework is not required.

Commitment
A two year course of five periods per week. Self-motivation and much hard work is necessary, but this can lead to great personal satisfaction.

 

Entry requirements GCSE grades at A*-C, including GCSE English.  Also GCSE Maths at grade B (Higher Level)

 

Further Maths

FP1, M1 and M2 will comprise this course which will be done across two academic years.

Assessment will take the form of written papers.  Each paper is 1.5 hours long.
Coursework is not required.
