The Edexcel Creative and Media Diploma (Level 3)

What are the Diplomas?
Diplomas have been developed to provide new and innovative qualifications for 14 to 19 year old learners. They are a defined set of qualifications that have been combined according to a set of rules.
Diplomas are designed to support progression to further study, training or employment.
Learners will have the opportunity to develop and practise work-related skills within a chosen employment sector.

This qualification will help you channel your creativity, giving you practical knowledge of creative processes and skills and how they are applied in different industries. You’ll examine visual arts, craft, music, film, TV, graphic design, textiles, advertising, drama, dance, photo imaging, computer games, creative writing and animation.

You’ll learn about:
• Creativity in context
• Thinking and working creatively
• Principles, processes and practice
• Creative business and enterprise.

The Course is a two year course that covers six units, with an additional Extended Project. The units run independently from each other and have Guided Learning Hours of 90 hours per unit. They are summarised below;

Year 1 Year 2

Unit 1 – Capture                           Unit 5 - Evaluation
Unit 2 – Show                              Unit 6 - Investigation
Unit 3 – Interaction                       Extended Project
Unit 4 – Commission

Units 1-4 Internally Assessed. Units 5+6 Exam, Externally Assessed.

In addition to the Principle Learning above there are further requirements for the Diploma Award. These are additional to the main learning.

Additional Specialist Learning – An AS qualification in ICT
Functional Skills – Level 2 – in English, Maths and ICT.
A minimum of 10 days Work Experience in a Creative and Media Role

The course is offered with an AS Level, giving the value for the course of 3 and a half A Levels at the end of the two years.

Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs or a BTEC course at Merit.
